Abstract

In Cuba the study of national identity, from a political-social point of view, has a long history that accompanied the process of formation of the national state, in some cases very similar to the experiences of the rest of the new continent, especially the Hispanic, in other cases profoundly different due to the geographical proximity and the strong political interest of the United States. The long process of Cuban independence, started with the War of 1898 and continued through the controversial relationship with the United States, finds its singularity in the Castroist revolution and its political and cultural link.
