Il conflitto tra libertà e sicurezza nelle società democratiche: riflessioni a partire dalla Francia

Abstract

For both the historical development of political theory and the current challenge posed by terrorism and “séparatisme islamiste”, France is a privileged place of observation of the intrinsic tension between the complementary but also antinomic principles of freedom and security. After briefly considering some crucial moments of this endless theoretical debate, the article focuses on some recent episodes of religious and ideological violence, which have deeply affected French public opinion.
